IT & Data Centers
Innovation has its place.
And it’s right here.
Beyond being one the one of the most connected states in the country, Virginia offers dependable and cost-effective power, water, telecommunications and other infrastructure resources to support mission-critical facilities.
That’s why large companies such as Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, Northrop Grumman, and Capital One have located major IT operations facilities, data centers and backup operations in the Southern Virginia Region.
Virginia government and utilities are also data-driven. The Virginia General Assembly has enacted long-term legislation exempting large data center facilities (meeting certain eligibility requirements) from sales & use tax on qualified data center equipment.
The average cost per unit of electricity for large power users in Virginia ranges from 5.4 cents to 6.4 cents, compared to 6.6 cents for the rest of the nation. In addition, both Dominion Virginia Power and Appalachian Power offer special rates and incentives for data centers.
- Capital One: Financial Services
- Hewlett Packard: Mission-Critical Data Center
- Microsoft: Computer Software and Products
- Northrop Grumman Information Systems: Data Management and IT Enterprise Platforms and Solutions
